Message from Coach Calder:

I make every effort to get every player as much playing time as possible. Each parent payed the same amount to have their children play, there is no silver, gold or platinum plan. We coaches rotate running backs with 10 players. There are certain positions that I have to have to most athletic players: guard, fullback, corners, linebacker, and D-ends. The quarterback has to know the whole offense and the wings should be fast. If I put someone who isn't physically gifted in he will get run over and I risk bringing harm to him and to the players who are going to feel the need to compensate for him. In the fourth quarter of that game we had starters begging us to go back in and we sat them to give other players playing time. You are definitely picking the wrong game to criticize.

The Walpole game there was an oversight on my part and I put a good player in at the beginning of the fourth quarter. I apologized to the player and his parent. I assured both that would never happen again and that he would start against Needham and he played well. I nag Kelly Olson all game about the MPRs and we went beyond the minimum plays. I have an open door policy to any parent. I treat this as youth football not the NFL. We have drills to evaluate the player, if your player is unable to play one of the integral positions then his options are limited. We have 6 players that play both offense and defense on a regular basis, and more that will play in an emergency situation. With close to 40 players I was forced to teach the kids the no huddle offense just to get them in.

Sometimes circumstances works against us. If your son is just on defense, we have a ball control offense and Needham fumbled the ball a few times. I'm not going to just stick a kid in offense. Part of the reason why I passed to ball with a 28-0 lead and with 10 minutes left in the game was to get back on defense. I'm not going to start taking a knee with a full quarter to play or start punting on first down. I've seen that before and I thinks that's an insult to our opponents. I want parents to attend and you can stand right next to the coaches at our practices. I will justify why kids play their positions. If you're still not satisfied, then take me aside or use Gerry Hartwell as your conduit. I'm sorry that someone would feel that way after what I think is setting up to be a great season.

Coach Roger

Any players with outstanding paperwork please turn in ASAP or you will risk your child not being able to participate in practice and scrimmages.
